‘PonPonPon’ marks the debut single from blogger-turned-singer Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and is a slice of infectious pop that’s just as beguiling as the bonkers video that accompanies it. Kyary’s singing career comes on the back of her alternative life as a fashion model and blog writer who also launched her own line of fake eyelashes.
The song also comes with some inspired credentials as it was produced by Yasutaka Nakata, member of Technopop outfit capsule and also producer of power pop trio Perfume (he also became the first Japanese artist to officially remix Kylie Minogue with a version of her single ‘Get Outta My Way’ in 2010).
But it’s the video for the song that seems to be attracting all the attention for this 18-year-old singer. The set design was created by Sebastian Masuda, who is better known as the owner of the Harajuku shop and brand 6% Dokidoki (who also made a stylish appearance at 2010’s Japanese Art Festival).
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s debut mini-album Moshi Moshi Harajuku features 6 tracks, including a cover of capsule song ‘Jelly’ which was released as the follow-up single earlier this month. is due for release in Japan later this month. The first press edition also comes with a special photobook.
Moshi Moshi Harajuku is due for release in Japan on 17th August 2011.
