This weekend’s NO NUKES 2012 performance, as previously reported, is to be streamed live this weekend via Ustream.
The music festival which takes place on the 7th & 8th of July has been organised by Ryuichi Sakamoto and features 18 acclaimed bands/artists performing at the Makuhari Messe convention centre in Chiba (near Tokyo). Legendary Technopop outfit Yellow Magic Orchestra and Electronic pioneers Kraftwerk are to share the same stage for the first time in their long careers as part of the event. As well as YMO and Kraftwerk, the line-up also includes Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Hajime Chitose, Akihiro Namba, 9mm Parabellum Bullet, Acidman, Nakaido Reichi Band, Ryuichi Sakamoto and others.
The event will be streamed live on both days with streaming starting at 12pm each day.
Following the tragic earthquake/tsunami in Japan last year – and the accident at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Station – Sakamoto decided to organise NO NUKES 2012 as a statement against the use of nuclear power in Japan. All proceeds will be donated to the “Committee for the 10 Million People’s Petition to say Goodbye to Nuclear Power Plants”.
The live stream will not only include live performances, but also interviews, live reports and informational videos. The live stream will be presented under the name of skmtSocialproject , a project organized by Ryuichi Sakamoto and his supporters.
“We will be sending a message in real time to people around the world who will not be able to be physically there at NO NUKES 2012 in Makuhari Messe” said Sakamoto, “I’d like to bring people together over these two days to think about our future. This is also a chance for the audience to embrace the music. We are planning a special event during the show that will allow the live-cast audience to join forces with us to bring this movement to next level. So please join us – but don’t just watch! Every single action matters.”
